Preparing for a photo shoot

When you are looking into getting some pictures done, the best and easiest way to get what you really want out of the experience is to be really well prepared. No matter how good a photographer is...they will never be able to reflect your vision unless you take the time to prepare that vision clearly for them.

Here are some steps to go through when you are preparing for the shoot:

  • Start with a theme. Would you like to go back in time and get a shoot from the 50's?
  • You need to find appropriate costumes and clothing to reflect your theme.
  • You need to find a location that will be a great backdrop and will be in line with the theme you've chosen.
  • Go on the web or look through magazines or books to find poses that you may want the photographer to be thinking about when he shoots the session.
  • make sure you find a photographer that you are comfortable. To do this, make sure you meet him/her in advance and go through all of the above steps with them and see if they quickly "get your vision". If they don't...you're not with the right photographer. In order to have a great session, you'll have to be very trusting of the photographer so you need to make sure you're very comfortable with your choice.
  • Book a make-up artist for the shoot and a hairdresser as well. You want to make sure you've done your part to "LOOK" the part.
  • Make sure to have enough costume changes. You should have a minimum of 3.
  • Make sure you get a good night's sleep the night before the shoot. It's important to look rested and refreshed...
  • Bring some of your favorite music to the session. It will help you get into the mood and make you at ease with the new environment.

Least but not least, relax and enjoy the experience...it's meant to be a lot of fun!
